Sleeping Badly? Try These Top Tips For Getting A Good Night

Whether you’re an early bird or a late riser, everybody needs a good bit of sleep. Not sleeping properly is probably one of the worst things you can do to your body. At the best it makes you a little cranky. At the worst you’re looking at heart disease or increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Your beauty sleep is good for more than just keeping the eye bags away.

Sleep isn’t easy for everybody though. For every person who can put their head on the pillow and fall fast asleep, there are at least two more who toss and turn for hours and hours. There isn’t just one trick to a good night of sleep. There are several.

No Distractions

Keep your phone, tablet, or laptop in your bedroom? You’ve already made a massive error. First of all, electronic disturbances can ruin your sleep pattern. They’ll interfere with your natural body clock. There’s no one reason this happens, but it’s best to keep these things out of the bedroom or in a drawer.

Your phone or tablet can be incredibly distracting. If you’re having trouble sleeping, you might check the internet on either device to relieve yourself of the boredom before you feel sleepy again. The problem is that you’re already making a huge mistake in doing that. The bright light from the devices will do more to keep you awake than send you to sleep.

Get A Good Bed

Anybody who has ever slept on an uncomfortable bed will know that it makes a huge difference. Uncomfortable can mean different things for different people though. For some, beds can be too hard. For others, too soft. Finding the balance that is best for you is ideal. Before you buy a mattress always be sure to test it.

Unwind Before Bed

Don’t go to bed tensed and stressed. Do an activity that helps you unwind for the day. Now, unwinding has a very large definition. It’s best to stay away from electronics for this though. If you want to watch television or play video games to unwind, do it significantly before bed and do a physical activity later.

Reading is always a good one. It focusses the mind enough to the point where you can slip into sleep with relatively little effort. If you’re not that big of a reader, try something like yoga instead. Gentle yoga is less aerobic based and won’t perk you up too much. It’ll focus your mind. Plus, if you suffer from cramping during sleep a touch of yoga will help keep that away.

Sleep isn’t so hard after all. All you need to do is just switch off sufficiently enough for your mind to take you off into unconsciousness. A good night of sleep is within your grasp now.
