Eco-friendly? Kinda.

So, if you’ve been following me online for a while, you already know that I’m a veggie/eco-friendly/hippie.
I’m mostly vegan, 100% vegetarian. I eat (as does the husband and kid) mostly organic, 99% natural.
I recycle like a fiend.
All of my cleaning products are natural. All of my body products are natural.

AND YET- I cannot give up on non-eco friendly paper towels, toilet paper, and tissue. I have tried. OH, how I have tried, but the paper towels were HORRIBLE, and the toilet paper, well, let’s just say my bum prefers something softer. I tried the eco-friendly tissues and they left my nose raw.

I feel so guilty! But, I literally have to use 5 of the eco-friendly paper towels to equal one of the non-eco friendly ones. So, I try to convince myself that it’s ok. I know most environmentalists would tell me to stop using paper towels all together, but that’s just unrealistic for my lifestyle. (I have a toddler and 4 animals. At least once a day SOMEONE’S bodily fluid needs to be wiped up.)

Do you guys have any recommendations on eco friendly toilet paper, paper towels, and/or tissues?

Products I Love

I’m actually kind of a freak- I had straight blond hair most of my life, and then in my twenties, it turned curly and brown. Curly hair is hard to manage even if you grow up with it, so you can imagine how hard it was for me. I tried tons of gels and creams, and the one that works best, BY FAR is Aveda’s Be Curly:

This is me before Be Curly:
This is what happens....

Stringy and frizzy.

And this is me after:
New Haircut Natural

Smooth, and lush.

Be Curly’s ingredients are all natural, and organic. We even use it on Willa:

Do you have any all natural hair products that you love?

Traveling Advice

We are flying to Houston is February to visit our friends Tracy and Dan. (I’ll also be going to the Mom 2.0 summit.)

We haven’t flown with Willa since she was 4 months old, and that was easy- I just stuck my boob in her mouth when she was unhappy.

I admit that I’m a little freaked out about flying with a toddler.

We bought this because we intend on bringing the car seat onto the plane.

I’ll bring a couple of books, some stickers, and the laptop so we can show her a DVD if necessary. I’ll also pack snacks.

I would love to bring some milk (Willa drinks rice milk), but I’m not sure if they’ll let me bring it through security.

We’ll all survive if Willa cries on the plane, but I’d really like to avoid it.

Willa is pretty good about walking long distances, and we’ll have the wheels on the car seat, but do we bring a stroller too?

I’d love your advice and tips about flying/traveling with a toddler.

Cupcakes

This past weekend we went to a birthday party for Willa’s friends- boy triplets who were turning three.

The triplets love all things sports related, so their mom wanted to do sports themed cupcakes.

She baked the cupcakes and I brought over my awesome buttercream to decorate them. Recipe here.

I only had red, green, yellow, and blue food coloring, so it wasn’t easy making the colors for the basketballs and footballs, but I think I did OK.

The red stitching on the baseballs was done with some red gel icing that the triplets’ mom already had on hand.

I thought making cupcakes instead of one cake, was a really good idea for a birthday party for multiples.

The more cupcakes I make, the more I like them.

See my idea for a cupcake buffet here.

Bonus picture- Willa patiently waiting for her cupcake:

Sweater

This was my sweater when I was Willa’s age.

My grandma made it. I treasure it.

I couldn’t wait until Willa was big enough to wear it.

Welcome to the new blog.

Isn’t it pretty? That’s all thanks to Jen at Dress My Blog. She did an amazing job, and was a pleasure to work with. If you need some web design done, I highly recommend her.

I thought I would start things off by showing you guys my Life List. It was inspired by lists that Danielle and Maggie have done.

I’ve been adding things to it for months, and yet, I only have 52 items. I’m sure I’ll add more in the coming months.

If you have a Life List, please leave a link to it in the comments.

I’d also love to know what you think of the new blog. I’ll be adding things and working out the kinks over the next few days.
